What’s in a Breed? Ridge’s DNA Reveal Party

Every dog has a story, and for Ridge, that story turned out to be more surprising than anyone expected. This adoptable sweetheart, currently in the loving care of his foster parents through Paws in the City, recently had his moment in the spotlight at a DNA breed reveal party. If you’ve never heard of one, think of it as a fun, dog-themed twist on a gender reveal party—with even more tail wags!

Ridge’s foster parents had plenty of guesses about his genetic mix. With his unique look and personality, they speculated he might be part Great Dane, Red Tick Coonhound, Bloodhound, Pit Bull, Staffordshire Terrier, Chihuahua, or even Greyhound.

The results from Ridge’s Wisdom Panel DNA test had us all rolling with laughter:

  • 49% Great Pyrenees
  • 19% Doberman Pinscher
  • 14% Staffordshire Terrier
  • 10% Pit Bull
  • 2% Collie
  • 2% Anatolian Shepherd
  • 2% American Bulldog
  • 1% Maremma Sheepdog
  • and drumroll, please….1% Chihuahua

That’s a whole lot of Ridge, wrapped up in one lovable package!

Why Do a Dog DNA Test?

For dog lovers, DNA testing is a chance to uncover the fascinating genetic makeup of their furry family member. It’s not just about curiosity (although that’s a huge part of it!). Here are a few reasons why testing your dog’s DNA can be a great idea:

  1. Better Health Insights: Some DNA tests offer information about genetic predispositions to certain health conditions, helping you take proactive steps for your pup’s wellness.
  2. Understanding Behaviors: Knowing your dog’s breed mix can give insight into their personality quirks or unique traits, making training and bonding even more meaningful.
  3. Building a Stronger Connection: Understanding your dog’s lineage creates an even deeper bond—plus, it’s fun to see which family member they resemble most!

Adopt Ridge!!

Ridge is truly one of THE SWEETEST dogs we’ve worked with. Here’s what his foster family has to say about him:

“Ridge is a sweet sweet cuddly boy who is actually the chillest puppy we’ve ever had. He’s likes to play fetch and tug, but is pretty low energy. He’s loves to wrestle with his foster brothers one is 75lbs and the other is 20lbs. He does get barrier anxiety with regards to leashes when dogs he doesn’t know are around or around doors when food and other dogs are present, so I’d recommend him as either an “only dog” or for an experienced/assertive dog owner if other dogs will be in the house. He’s very food motivated and knows how to kennel on command and will come when called.”

Is Ridge possibly a good fit for you? While Ridge’s DNA results were surprising, one thing about him remains undeniable: he’s 100% lovable. If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet companion who brings a mix of Great Pyrenees poise and Doberman devotion, Ridge might be the perfect fit for your family. We would LOVE to see him in a home for the holidays! Contact Paws in the City to inquire about this darling dude!
