Graduation is right around the corner and senior portraits are a great way to mark this milestone, create
something for parents to look back on, and a way to share your excitement about things to
come with friends and family. Capture who you are and what’s important to you – add a layer of warmth and personality by taking senior pictures with your beloved dog or horse.
Whether it’s your childhood dog that’s been with you through the late-night studies or a horse that’s brought you joy from days at the barn, showcase the unique bond you share by including them in your senior photos. Were you a junior handler at dog shows? Did you compete in horseback riding? Senior portraits are the perfect time to showcase your hobbies and activities. Seize the moment and use your senior photoshoot as the perfect excuse to break out matching accessories, such as a collar or saddle pad, or incorporate sentimental items, like a favorite toy or ribbons won.
We’ve had the privilege of photographing many seniors with their beloved pets, showcasing their unique bond. Some of our favorite moments include a senior athlete cuddling with his childhood dogs,
senior girls unable to help but smile as they kiss their horse on the nose, and even a senior guy
and his horse demonstrating their mounted shooting skills.
Kiara and her yellow Lab, Aspen, proved blondes really do have more fun at their photo session. These two beautiful ladies looked right at home at our 7-acre dog photo studio, enjoying the serenity of the tree-lined pond, adding a pop of pink to the seasonal flowers, and sharing a sweet moment on the side of our vintage truck. Kiara was perfect in pink, coordinating her matching magenta shirt to Aspen’s dog collar.
Will performs mounted shooting on his blue roan Quarter Horse, aptly named Blue. This dynamic duo appropriately added pops of blue to their horse photography session in Will’s shirt and Blue’s saddle pad. It was an exhilarating session to photograph as Will rode directly toward the camera firing at the balloons. We also incorporated our vintage truck to fit the western vibe.
The only thing better than portraits of a senior guy with his dogs is when the dogs are seniors themselves. Southlake senior athlete Trent created some emotional family photos with Golden Retrievers Remington and Ryder. We started in our dog photography studio and then headed outside where sunset provided the perfect reminder that endings can be beautiful too.
Graduating senior Julia was preparing to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and wanted portraits that showcased the bond with one of her favorite horses, Tally. We love photos that tell stories and have meaning, so we incorporated an American flag flown over Al Assad Air Base during Operation Iraqi Freedom draped over the mare’s back. Assistants stood next to the horse to ensure the flag never touched the ground and were edited out in the final portrait.
Texas Tech senior Sam was graduating with a degree in business and wanted a photoshoot with her Georgian Grande Friesian horse, Cleo, to commemorate their years riding dressage together. Sam brought bold colors in her dress and base layer, which popped against Cleo’s paint markings and the autumn colors at their barn in Bartonville, TX. We incorporated posed photos and riding photos in her gallery.
