If you’re a dog mom looking to explore the great outdoors with your furry friend, you’re in luck! Grapevine Lake boasts a selection of walking trails that welcome dogs, each offering its own unique charm.
When we’re not taking pictures of dogs for clients, we like to explore trails with our pack and enjoy finding new spots for pet photography. One of the advantages of hiring a professional pet photographer is the knowledge and expertise of where to go for the perfect views and light. Our adventures have led us to many picturesque dog walking trails throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, and today we’re sharing 5 of our favorites.
North Shore Trail: Dog walkers can enjoy a 9-mile trail winding along the northern shores of Grapevine Lake, offering scenic views of the water and surrounding woodlands. With relatively flat terrain and well-maintained paths, it’s an ideal choice for dog owners looking for a stroll with their canine companions. Keep an eye out for waterfowl and other wildlife that call the lake their home.
Oak Grove Loop: Located near Oak Grove Par, this 3-mile loop traverses through shady oak groves and open meadows, providing a refreshing retreat from the Texas sun. Leashed dogs are welcome on this trail, just be sure to clean up after them to help preserve the natural beauty of the area.
C. Shane Wilbanks Trail: Spanning approximately 3 miles, this easily accessible trail welcomes leased dogs and boasts picturesque views of Grapevine Lake. With its flat, paved paths, C. Shane Wilbanks Trail is perfect for leisurely walks with your dog. Begin in Oak Grove Park and meander your way through McPherson Slough, or extend your hike with a detour onto Horseshoe Trail.
Horseshoe Trail: Located on the south side of Grapevine Lake, near Silver Lake Marina, Horseshoe Trail is a 4.5-mile loop frequented by hikers and cyclists. While not overly strenuous, the trail’s varied terrain winds through wooded areas and occasional inclines, providing a satisfying challenge for hikers and their dogs looking for a bit of adventure. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash, pack water and waste bags, and keep an eye out for mountain bikers along the trail.
Murrell Park Trails: Nestled on the northern shores of Grapevine Lake, Murrell Park offers a network of trails, ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. While some trails may be better suited for experienced hikers, the Lakeside Loop Trail provides a gentle, scenic route that’s perfect for dog walking. Conveniently located in Flower Mound, Murrell Park is easily accessible from Dallas and Fort Worth. Its gorgeous views make it one of our favorite locations for dog photography.
Before hitting the trails with your dog, keep in mind these essential guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone:
Leash Policy: While most Grapevine Lake trails allow dogs, it’s typically required to keep them on a leash at all times.
Bring Water: Be sure to bring along plenty of water for you and your dog, as well as a bowl for your furry friend to drink from.
Mind Trail Etiquette: Practice good trail etiquette by yielding to other hikers and keeping your dog under control at all times. Remember to pack out any waste and dispose of it properly to keep the trails clean for future visitors.
