Selecting the Best Season for Your Dallas Dog Photography Session

In our last blog post we looked at different colors for your dog photography session using our studio backdrops. This month we’re headed outside and discussing seasons! Have you ever wondered when to schedule your pet’s photo session? Would you believe I left California in part seeking more variety and truth in seasons of weather?! It’s true! For me, Dallas offers the perfect blend of chill in the air, flowers in the fields, warmth to make the water feel cool, and crispness of fall to feel like I’ve made it through another full year. Join us for a review of each season, the best outfits for your photo session depending on the time of year, and how to decorate with your pet’s portrait based on the style of your home.

Winter Pet Portrait Sessions in Dallas-Fort Worth

“How many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year!”

– Thomas Wentworth Higginson

While the colorful charisma of autumn and spring are not to be understated, there is an often overlooked allure created in our winter dog photography sessions. Winter photoshoots often result in stunning monochromatic photos with gold and silver tones. In fact, some of the warmest moments captured on camera are in the coldest months of the year. It’s a perfect time to draw in the softness of the sun and capitalize on those gorgeous neutral tones most people have throughout their home.

Book a winter pet photography session if you:

  • Love gold and silver tones
  • Prefer neutrals, woods, or metal accents throughout your home
  • Enjoy accessorizing with beautiful scarves and coats
  • Have a breed like whose personality shines in the cold

This photo of Huckleberry and his mom will forever be one of my favorite winter scenes. There is something so magical about the quality of light at this time of year and you can just feel the warmth of the moment.

We photographed Astro the Husky and Shishito the Heeler mix at our 7-acre studio, Haute Dog Ranch, in December. The golden sunlight through the hay fields made for a dreamy monochromatic quality. We paired the outdoor portion of their session with some time in the warmth of the studio where we continued with a soft tan backdrop to keep a consistent color palette throughout their custom album.

That golden light and soft neutral tones of the winter hay fields worked perfectly for the wall art in the dining room at Chevy and Hemi’s house.

Of course, some of my favorite photos were created during the historic February 2021 snow storm with my horse. Just a spark of imagination (and some fleece lined pants under that dress!) made for an epic silver-studded opportunity to Carpe Freez’em!

Although the 2022 Dallas snow storm was far less dramatic, the ice shined like diamonds for my heart dog, Jake. His personality comes to life in the cold more than any other season.

Spring Pet Photoshoots in Dallas-Fort Worth

“That is one good thing about this world…there are always sure to be more springs.”

― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea

Spring is a delight for the senses (except maybe the allergies which leave me feeling like Max below). A variety of colors and textures abound as everything returns to life.

Book a spring dog photography session if you:

  • Love greenery, florals, and bright colors
  • Prefer pops of color throughout your home decor
  • Enjoy flowy dresses and light sweaters
  • Can be flexible with rain checks

The flower arch at Haute Dog Ranch is one of my favorite props this time of year (and it’s about to get a major upgrade…stay tuned for the all the arbor awesomeness).

The Dallas area boasts a number of gorgeous locations filled with spring blossoms and of course, blue bonnets.

Springtime exudes a sense of innocence and freshness captured so purely in this lovely moment between mom, daughter, and their dogs.

Wheaten Terrier pups Teddy and Jo had a blast playing on the shores of the lake under the soft spring pastel-painted sky.

Summer Pet Photography in Dallas-Fort Worth

“Cause a little bit of summer is what the whole year is all about.”

-John Mayer

It’s no secret Texas summers bring the heat, but they’re especially fun if your dog enjoys the water! Summer also offers longer days, allowing for greater flexibility in scheduling days of the week for many people, since golden hour begins after 6pm.

Book a summer dog photography session if you:

  • Love epic sunsets
  • Prefer a nice balance of neutrals and colors throughout your home
  • Enjoy flowy dresses and sandals
  • Have a dog who enjoys playing in the water!

Water scenes helped tell the stories of Rhodesian Ridgeback Bane (who could swim for days), chocolate Lab Taylar, hunting dog/German Shorthaired Pointer Delco, and Alaskan Malamute Tug Boat, whose mom was a ship captain!

Summertime sunsets truly can’t be beat.

Early summer is also prime time for sunflowers.

Fall Pet Portraits in Dallas-Fort Worth

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.”

– Emily Bronte

Fall is our busiest time of year, and it’s no surprise. The rich colors of the season paired with crisp cool air as summer fades is a pure dream.

Book an autumn pet photography session if you:

  • Love jewel tones
  • Prefer rich leather and wood furniture in your home decor
  • Enjoy boots and sweaters
  • Plan ahead (our fall schedule often fills months in advance!)

Autumn also boasts mum season and the final daisy blooms.

As luck would have it, there is no wrong season for your pet photography session, it’s all in your personal preference, home decor style, and the best fit for your dog! Contact us to chat more about the best time of year for you!
